Congratulations to Talkdemonic, who are punctuating a recent run of success (including opening for The Flaming Lips in New York and signing to Isaac Brock’s label Glacial Pace) with the premiere of their new music video on MTV.
I remember seeing Talkdemonic (at that time a solo act) at Mikey’s Gyros in Moscow, ID way back in 2004. Being able to watch this video online from a...

Architectural Guide Basel →
I picked up my Christmas present from Stephanie yesterday, Birkhauser’s Architectural Guide Basel. It’s the perfect present and companion for my next year.
You can preview a good amount of the guide on Amazon. Go ahead and click through, check it out. I’ll post more photos once I visit these locations on my own. With 117 to choose from, including works by Frank Gehry, Herzog...

A Quick Tour of Frenkendorf
My first couple weeks in Switzerland were totally snow-filled. Every day saw inches (or centimeters) of freshly fallen powder. On one particularly snowy morning, I took a quick walking tour of my new hometown, Frenkendorf.
It’s a small village of about 6,000 people and homes that were built in the 1600’s (note the date of the door of the church). And don’t miss the public...

Basel Has a Hammering Man
I went into Basel to register for my German classes, and right across the street, I saw a familiar face. Basel and Seattle are two of 11 cities to have a Hammering Man sculpture, the work of the kinetic sculptor Jonathan Borofsky.
Basel’s Hammering Man isn’t as large as the one in Seattle, which stands at 14.6m or 48’ tall, but the figures are striking similar....

Remembering my Grandmother, Cecilia M. Kays
When I left home to come abroad, I knew there was a very good chance that I had seen my Grandma Cec for the last time. Traveling was a passion of Grandma’s, something that she did quite a lot of in her life, and inspired me to do, as well.
She kept a framed world map with all of the places she’d traveled to marked by a flag. There was a pin on every continent (not counting...

Cruising Around Basel, December 2
Last Thursday, December 2, I cruised around Basel for a couple hours snapping photos of some places. You’ll see some pics of the Martinsplatz fountain, die Münster, and a few other areas totally covered in snow. I’ll post more pics of these places later, as this will be home for the next year.

Bumbershoot Remembers Solomon Burke, King of Rock... →
bumbershootfestival:
With the recent passing of Solomon Burke, we take comfort in looking back on two amazing Festivals with the Legendary King of Rock & Soul, including Bumbershoot 2010. Those who were lucky enough to see Solomon close the Starbucks Stage on Saturday night were treated to an amazing performance…

What I "Like" About Facebook
Today Facebook took their next step in the pursuit to own the word “like”. As of today, you are no longer a “fan” of things. You “like” them. Now you are that much more likely to associate the word “like” with Facebook.
Honestly, how many times in the past few months have you began a sentence with “I like…” and thought of...

Commercial Music: Coca-Cola
Forgive me for not posting for a while. Work keeps me busy. Anyways, I had a day off and decided to go see Up In the Air (highly recommended, by the way), before the movie I saw the commercial above rolling with the coming attractions.

Digg Ads: The next step in social marketing
Google rewards relevancy. Diggs rewards your ads for being well-liked.
marketingpipeline:
Digg has launched a new offering, Digg Ads.
It’s an interesting system drawn on the model of Google AdWords feedback to encourage advertisers to learn to develop advertising that consumers actually want - that actually engages.
The system works by calculating a quality score based on Diggs, buries...

Commercial Music: Vizio
I see this commercial all the time. Constantly. It was just on. Curious who the band is?
Empire of the Sun - We Are the People from the album Walking on a Dream
Speaking of which, check out the title track to that album. It’s excellent.

Only 49 Days Left!
Walmart wants you to be aware that you only have 49 days left (as of my writing this on November 5) until Christmas. And now that we’ve had two months of growth in consumer spending, they’re going to make sure it’s as easy as possible for you to spend as much as possible, directly from your phone. They’ve created an app for that, specifically to drive sales for their...

The best bad movie you will ever see.
The trailer for The Room is probably the most professional piece of the movie, but if the movie itself was more professionally done, I would not be writing about it today. No one would be. If anyone with anything besides blind determination to turn their screenplay into a film were directing/starring in it, despite the fact that they had zero experience in film-making, no one would see The...

Miller Lite Mobile
You may have seen the commercial: a few guys standing in a crowded bar trying to order some beers when one of them holds up his phone…
Forget the fact that he’s at the other end of the room. This works, he is served. Brilliant right? Maybe. Will it really work? Probably not. At the very least it may generate a few more purchases based on pure novelty.
“Hey check it...

s0cialmedia.com →
My buddy Elliott just reached out to me about becoming a contributor for his site s0cialmedia.com.
I’ve contributed to sites in the past, and it works out pretty well when I’m into it. See Fensepost.com about three years ago for my last stint.
Anyways, I think I’m going to do this. Stay tuned…
